The new show of the Rockin1000 band will be held on Saturday 21st July at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence.
The project founded by Fabio Zaffagnini who gave life to the clamorous idea of creating the biggest rock band in the world scored another hit.
In fact, after having assembled the first 1000 musicians in Cesena to play Foo Fighter’s “Learn To Fly”, after having brouth the Foo Fighter in Romagna for a special concert, after the mega concert at the Manuzzi stadium in Cesena, after having organized the Rockin1000 Camp, today they bring the biggest rock band in the world to Florence with an even bigger project.
The band will go from 1000 to 1500 components (divided into 300 guitars, 250 bass, 250 drums and 300 voices, there will also be two new instrumental sections, 250 wind instruments and 50 percussions), which will be directed by the master Beppe Vessicchio and will see the participation of Courtney Love.
The Brave Foundation of Renzo Rosso is also taking part in the organization. Together with Rockin1000 it has been involved in supporting the recovery community of San Patrignano with this event.
“The first time I saw the Rockin’1000 video, I thought, ‘I want to do it!'” Courtney Love said.
“It was amazing to see and listen to thousands of musicians in connection with the audience in this open and transcultural way, it reminded me of the first punk scene, where there was a community focused on diversity and acceptance. After hearing about the commitment of Rockin1000 and Only the Brave Foundation to San Patrignano, a reality that fights addictions and social exclusion, I decided I had to be part of it. “
“I would not say I was a rocker but this does not prevent me from appreciating the values associated with this type of music. The Rockin’1000 project immediately intrigued me and the idea of facing me with hundreds of instrumentalists who love this kind of music has caused me an involuntary and spontaneous smile. To feel in tune with the rock language I did not look frills … I immediately accepted! Today, as I am today, I am even more pleased with this adhesion because I have been able to note that the commitment to promulgating these gentlemen is also noteworthy for the didactic aspect in which it insists and even more for the social one that drives and pushes the whole initiative. So I would like to add thanks, thanks, thanks for this sort of musical communion that promises to be warm and engaging. “- declared the Maestro Beppe Vessicchio.
The 1500 musicians will play in unison, Saturday 21 July at 21:00 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, with a repertoire of iconic pieces of the History of Rock (tickets still available on www.rockin1000.com). The big event, now in its fourth edition, is anticipated on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July (starting at 12, free admission) from the Rock Village, a space for sharing and musical activities dedicated to the Rockin’1000 Community, an initiative included in the Florentine Summer, sponsored by the Municipality of Florence.

Rockin’1000 announces the songs in the lineup that will be performed during That’s Live 2018, the great event that takes place on Saturday 21st July at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence: there are 15 tracks confirmed to date (some titles will remain mysterious until the day of the event) and 7 instrumental sections involved: drums, basses, guitars, voices, keyboards, winds (between saxophones, trumpets and trombones) and percussion – prepared by 10 Music Gurus, directed by Maestro Beppe Vessicchio. After identifying the pieces to be included in the lineup, thanks to the research carried out throughout the year by Rockin’1000 historical music referents: Augusta Trebeschi (Guru Voce), Biagio Esposito (Guru Basso), Lele Borghi and Alberto Paderni (Guru Batteria ), Claudio Cavallaro and Stefano Re (Guitar Guru) and Davide Marani (Guru Keyboards), and after joining the new team referents of the special instrumental sections of this edition: Marco “Benny” Petrolani (Guru Sax), Enrico “Rico” Farnedi (Trumpet Guru) and Francesco Petreni (Percussions Guru), all the video tutorials were produced and study by the musicians that receive these video through to the platform www.rockin1000.com to prepare for the big event. In particular, Claudio Cavallaro, who is also Rockin’1000 music consultant, arranged the pieces with the collaboration of Davide Marani, computer programming expert and the collective supervision of all the Music Guru team. The result of this long curatorial work. is a very special set-list that celebrates music through a journey in time that goes from 1968 with the song Hard To Handle by Otis Redding until 2014 with Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson, featuring Bruno Mars: there will be space for the best hymns of the history of rock, but there will also be some original variations on the theme that widen the spectrum of the sound with the aim of making the audience dance in the stands, reaching the heart, the stomach and the legs of every single spectator.
Rockin1000 for the first absolute time will perform with a globally known music star, Courtney Love, who will play with the ensemble three of his biggest hits as frontwoman of the band Hole, “Celebrity Skin”, “Malibu” and “Olympia”.
Some songs have been completely revolutionized, like Numb by Linkin Park, others have been merged together in one mega piece, as the only medley in the lineup composed from Sympathy for the Devil of the Rolling Stones and Hush from Deep Purple.
Others have been shortened, such as Will’s Not Fooled Again by the Who, taking care to preserve intact all their essence and their power.
Thanks to the two new instrumental sections, it will be possible to hear unpublished performances, such as the Medley that provides percussion and as the workhorse of the Thousand, Learn to Fly of the Foo Fighters and Killing in the Name of the Rage Against the Machine that provide the inclusion of the winds.
To get the best possible sound performance, making 1500 players play simultaneously, it is important to use many precautions during the arrangement. It is fundamental to aim at the bone: for each instrument a file work is carried out, the essential parts are identified and any note or blow is removed that, played in thousands of musicians, would not only be indistinguishable, but above all would risk to dirty the sound very much.
With a rock orchestra of colossal dimensions, the Guru team worked to achieve crazy harmonies and dynamics that would be simply impossible to create with a “standard” band. Rockin’1000 That’s Live has a mission: to rework songs iconic, making them “alive” and accessible to everyone.
