Delicate and incisive. Two adjectives that are good together because oxymorons and at the same time precious. The hand that grips the spray can and slides on the wall, the lightness of the stretch that leaves a groove on the surface, but also in the soul of the observers of the mural in its entirety.
The street artist Jorit Agoch has long reached this balance of hyperrealism and humanity. Around the globe he paints faces and gazes of common or well-known people, all with an unmistakable mark on the face: a tribal brand belonging to a great and infinite community. The human tribe, precisely.
Diego Armando Maradona is also finished inside. He, as Neapolitan of origin (his father is from Naples, his mother is Dutch), has paid homage to the “Dios umano” with a giant piece on a facade of a building in San Giovanni a Teduccio, in the eastern suburbs of Naples. Also existential suburb, the working-class buildings through art feel at the center of a superior design, aggregated to life and not isolated.

From God to the saints, Jorit in the Forcella district, three years ago, had painted a huge face of San Gennaro with the face of a friend of his, a 35-year-old worker. Common people that the artist has crossed in his life, he says that «sanctify the people like Caravaggio did» in a semantic “continuus” that once again brings the tribe and the human being at the center of the dialogue.
And the eyes of his portraits always have a special light. Also «his low eyes and fleeting eyes», as he himself wrote on a post on Facebook, by Niccolò, the new boy welcomed into the tribal family. He too gigantic, stands next to the Argentine football hero. Niccolò is a 15-year-old boy with autism. The delicacy and incisiveness of humanity (once again) of Jorit is all here: to explode his talent and show it on April 2, between a feast and another one in Italian style of Easter Monday, in the World Day of Awareness autism.

Jorit’s thought also moves to Facebook, where, alongside the striking image, he writes:
«Seeing Niccolò you feel a feeling of total closure, low eyes and fleeting eyes, but even if we spend a little time together, find ourselves almost immediately immersed in a world totally different from everyday life, a strange world where do not understand the meaning of things. This makes me think because basically it is not that it is very dissimilar from the “normal” reality. In fact, how many of us can say that really understood the meaning of existing? And then we are sure that there is really a sense? However if ever there should be is what you can perceive having an experience with an autistic person or anyway with any “special” person who more than the so-called “normal” people have need of affection and care and transmit those feelings very strong, that they feel when they reflect on what is really important. Perhaps the meaning is precisely in the relationship with the people around us, in giving and in having; to give according to one’s own abilities and to receive according to one’s own needs. Autistic people are fragile and need specialized and competent figures to take care of them. An advanced country must have a strong social state that takes care of each of the members of this society that should be one big family».

In the stories that pass through the empathy of the street artist there are daily struggles of warriors with cardboard armor to quote the video and the message of the song “Eroe” of Caparezza, face that the same Jorit has immortalized and inserted in his huge family. Pictures of those who clench their fists daily and fight every hour. On the same facade, a few weeks before, the artist had written the poetry-nursery rhyme “Piccolo Principe” by Germana Bruno on autism and with a quote from the most famous book by Antoine Saint-Exupéry closes the speech of the boy’s parents that we find again on the social profile of Jorit:
«For 2 April, the world day of awareness on autism has been established for some years now. It has had the merit of making known to a growing number of people a world that many, perhaps too many, still ignore. For a strange irony of fate in a gloomy afternoon more or less the same day exactly on April 4 of 15 years ago, a specialist told us that those strange and funny behaviors of Niccolò that sometimes made us smile and disturb at the same time and his silences or the few little ones that are really funny, they had a name not as funny and instead very disturbing: autism spectrum syndrome, needless to say that 15 years ago apart from the word spectrum that evoked itself dark scenarios, autism knew nothing but stupid ideas and prejudices. Many people have repeated several times that we are special parents but I confess that I have wanted for years in every single day of my life to be a normal parent but in the same years I realized that we have nothing special except Niccolò who with his smiles and his presence made life better and gave us the opportunity to meet wonderful people on this long journey that helped and comforted us; kept standing. For some strange magic as if by osmosis all those who have crossed Niccolò on their path have let themselves be infected by this joy, among these people in the last month and a half have been added other people, who in the eyes of Niccolò have caught all that wonderful is only for those who can really look: the essential invisible to the eyes».
Niccolò’s eyes: delicate and incisive.
