«I HAVE A DREAM»: Michelle Obama and the new American dream!

«I want our young people to know that they matter, that they belong. Don’t be afraid». The last thought of Michelle Obama as first lady, during a meeting at the White House with some students and teachers, is aimed at young. In less than two weeks, on 20 January, the new president-elect, Donald Trump, will take office in Washington and Melania Trump will take the place of lady Obama.
Michelle does not hide the emotion while her leave from America, that same country that has turned its back to another woman, the democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, supported by the outgoing presidential family, preferring tycoon Republican. That same country, the United States, than just eight years ago had chosen a black man, for the first time, at the head of the nation. And hence, she too, the Chicago lawyer, as the first African-American first lady. Michelle, who incarnated with her husband’s dream of stars and stripes, coming into the house that centuries before had been built with the blood of slaves and blacks laborers, now leaves the scene. Maybe.
Because even in the hours following the triumph of Trump, a part of America had already identified her the enemy of “The Donald” for president in 2020. What seemed a joke launched on social, fueled by the Hillary fans disappointment, now it seems less likely than yesterday. Just read excerpts from his latest speech, more than goodbye, smells like “see you”.
The country belongs to the children, encourages Michelle, “If you or your parents are immigrants, know that you are part of a proud American tradition. If you are a person of faith, know that religious diversity is a great American tradition, too”. And then the lunge more personal, almost autobiographical: “If your family does not have much money, I want to remind you that in this country a lot of people – including my husband and I – started with very little. But with hard work and a good education, nothing is impossible, even become president of the United States. This is the American Dream”. Impossible to decipher whether these words can turn into the poster of an election campaign, but after the experience of Hillary Clinton (former first lady during her husband Bill mandates of the two) is not peregrine to imagine the nomination of a wife of a president.

Always at her husband’s side, always on the front line in favor of women’s and minority rights, Michelle Obama was, for some, the best first lady of the story. “It has forever changed their role,” Gloria Steinem wrote in The New York Tymes, she will have a destiny and an inheritance separate from her husband, added the journalist. Maybe as a candidate, perhaps as president. Where did not arrive Hillary could arrive Michelle. But herself warns: “This straight is not used given to you. It must be earned every single day”. Even from her that one day could not only be the wife, but the first woman president of the United States.
