Colette cannot exist without Colette: It closes down the story of Rue Saint Honoré

“Colette ne peut exister sans Colette”, Colette cannot exist without Colette, this is the reason why after 20 years the famous Parisian boutique Colette has decided to close. “Toutes les bonnes choses ont une fin. Après vingt années exceptionnelles, colette devrait définitivement fermer ses portes le 20 décembre prochain” (As all good things must come to an end, after 20 wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on December 20 of this year)
Said the company on Instagram. Colette Roussaux, who in 1997 founded the first concept store at Rue Saint Honoré No. 213, would, according to the Istagram profile, “has reached the time when she would like to take her time”.
The news makes such a stir because of the importance of a boutique that was the first to mix fashion, lifestyle, jewelry and books and hosting entire collections of designers like Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and Balenciaga. But not only!
Colette was one of the first boutique to understand the fusion of fashion with high-end aesthetic Streetweare, working with designers as Virgil Abloh first to base a White, Luke Meier OAMC, after leaving Supreme and then with a wave of designers Hood By Air.
“It’s the only shop where I go because they have things no one else has,” Karl Lagerfeld told to the Business of Fashion last year. “I buy watches, telephones, jewelry there—everything really. They have invented a formula that you can’t copy easily, because there is only one Colette and her and Sarah are 200 percent involved.”
Colette Roussaux, to date, has lived above the sales space with her daughter Sarah Andelman, Creative Director of the store, which also means the strong involvement of the two women.
The loss of a three-storey space that had the habit of hosting the most sought-after and trendy designers, with a solid reputation in discovering the next great designer, is already sorry for the fans and who has never been. However Colette said that: “Until our last day, nothing will change. Colette will continue to renew itself each week with exclusive collaborations and offerings, also available on our website”
But do not worry. If you also want Colette, you need to know that earlier this year H & M had announced collaboration with Colette for a H & M Studio x Colette line. It should be set for August 21 and will be available in stores and online, while Colette for only two weeks.
Anyhow there is hope, because to hear Andelman, together with the closure of the brick and mortar, will also close. But in the meantime it seems that it will focus on the “turn page”.
Do not think 213 Rue Saint Honoré will be empty for a long time!
It seems, according to well-informed sources (Vogue) that Saint Laurent is looking for a new home right in Rue Saint Honoré. Obviously it’s right at number 213!
